The Citizens Theatre building first opened as a theatre in 1878. We now need to redevelop our building to be welcoming, accessible and open to all audiences, artists, participants and local communities for generations to come.

We have secured most of the funding for our new redevelopment but we need your help to raise £1.6m to reach our target.

We Are Redeveloping

This comprehensive redevelopment and restoration is the first extensive renovation of the Citizens Theatre in its 140 years as a working theatre.

We Are Making Plans

This exciting project will modernise and transform our much-loved theatre, safeguarding its future for our audiences, community participants and the city of Glasgow.

We Are Asking For Support

Please help us to transform our building. There are many ways for supporters to get involved here.

We Are Making a Difference

Beyond the stage, the Citizens Theatre delivers a pioneering range of creative learning and participatory projects.

We Are Citizens Alumni

The Citizens Theatre has been instrumental in fostering the early careers of many well-known actors.

We Are Moving

The redevelopment of the building will be all-encompassing so we will be presenting work elsewhere during the project.
