We Are Making a Difference

“The Citizens has always believed that quality theatre is for everyone and that everyone should have the opportunity to take part in the creative life of the Theatre, whether by watching a play or by developing skills and self-confidence in an inclusive environment. We are committed to using drama as a vehicle for positive social change, particularly to benefit people with additional support needs and/or those experiencing disadvantage.”

Dominic Hill, Artistic Director

The Citizens Theatre’s extensive learning programme is all about connecting the widest possible range of people with the theatre’s professional programme and with each other.

The Citizens’ participatory programme fosters a deeper sense of community in the building, in the local area and across Glasgow.

We do this by:

  • Working with under-represented and marginalised communities and individuals
  • Working with children and young people
  • Working with vulnerable women
  • Working in the criminal justice system
  • Working to address social issues
  • Working to give people from all backgrounds the opportunity to perform on the Citizens stage
  • Working to respond to and support the Citizens professional programme

Through our learning activity we strive to make the Citizens Theatre an inclusive and diverse creative place – for audiences, artists, staff members and participants alike.

In our new building there will be dedicated spaces for our expanded Citizens Learning and participation activities.
