We Are Redeveloping

Over the next three years we’ll be making some changes to our home. We love our theatre as much as you do but our beautiful old building is falling into disrepair and we need to act now to preserve our heritage, while making our working spaces practical, accessible and inspiring for the many people who use them.

We will be enlarging and modernising the building which will involve demolishing large sections of the building including the current foyer and administrative offices. But rest assured at the core of the rebuilding will still be our unique Victorian auditorium which makes the Citizens so special.

As part of our planned improvements we will be:

Transforming the foyer so it’s a bigger, brighter and more comfortable space in which to relax in before a show;
Improving our audience experience with new facilities including air conditioning, parking spaces and more toilets;
Improving accessibility including levelled access from the street through the foyer and into the auditorium, lift access to all levels of the auditorium, improved wayfinding for blind patrons, new hearing aid loops and a fully equipped ‘changing places’ toilet and shower facility;
Creating a new café, which is open all day, where you can work and meet friends;
Reconfiguring rehearsal and community spaces to be equipped with modern, dynamic accessible facilities;
Revamping and extending our backstage facilities enabling us to be the most exciting and adventurous producing theatre in Scotland;
Introducing a new multi-purpose 152 seat studio space;
Increasing our financial sustainability through greater capacity, diversifying sources of income generation and reducing our annual expenditure;
Reducing our carbon footprint by creating a more energy efficient and environmentally sustainable building;
